April 04, 2012

The Private Capital Research Institute, an organization that compiles industry data for use in academic studies, said 15 firms have agreed to contribute transaction and fund information to PCRI's data platform.

Firms that have signed up with PCRI include prominent buyout shops Apollo Global Management, Carlyle Group, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., First Reserve Corp. and Clayton Dubilier & Rice. The list also contains Actis, Apax Partners, Berkshire Partners, Court Square Capital Partners, General Atlantic, Kohlberg & Co., New Mountain Capital, Riverside Co., Saybrook Corporate Opportunity Funds and Thomas H. Lee Partners.

Information from the firms will complement data from commercial providers that formed the skeleton of PCRI's database, part of a project headed by Harvard Business School Professor Josh Lerner that intend to promote academic research of private capital.

The data will be "anonymized" and kept in a secure website, and cannot not be used to analyze individual funds.

PCRI is a non-profit organization funded by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.
